SkyRanger R70
Advanced Multi-Mission UAV
Developed for the most demanding UAS operations, the SkyRanger R70 establishes a new benchmark for small UAS performance and reliability.
With its expanded carrying capacity, open architecture, and advanced autonomy and artificial intelligence, the R70 is redefining what’s possible with a small VTOL UAS.
Resilient and Operator-Proven
R70’s carbon fiber and magnesium airframe is tested to IP-54/MIL-810G. Operating up to 15,000’ MSL and withstanding winds of 65 kph sustained, 90 kph gusting (40mph, 56 mph) and 40 kph Max wind speed at takeoff (25mph).
An Open Architecture
The R70’s open architecture, including the Payload Development Kit (PDK) supporting payloads up to 3.5kg, allows end users and integrators to expand the capability set of their aircraft.
Autonomous and Intelligent
Advanced edge-of-network processing, enabling object detection and classification, semi-autonomous flight, and the ability to thrive in GPS- or comms-denied environments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the SkyRanger R70?
A rugged, man-portable VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) drone built for ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance), inspection, public safety, and defense missions. It features enhanced autonomy and flexible payload capabilities.
How quickly and easily can it be deployed?
Operable by a single person with rapid deployment—it can transition from transport to flight-ready in mere minutes.
What’s the size, weight, and payload capacity?
- Weight: ~5 kg (11 lb), wingspan ~1.35 m, height ~45 cm.
- Payload Capacity: Up to 3.5 kg using the Osprey delivery system or Payload Development Kit (PDK).
How long does it fly and how fast is it?
- Flight Time: Over 40 minutes with standard batteries; up to 59 minutes using XL battery packs.
- Ground Speed: Approximately 50 km/h (~31 mph).
What imaging and payload options are available?
- Payloads include StormCaster-T (continuous-zoom LWIR thermal), HDZoom 30 (up to 8 km zoom), and EO/IR Mk-II.
- Supports carry/drop missions via Osprey.
What autonomous capabilities does it offer?
Embedded NVIDIA TX2 processors power AI features like object detection/classification and autonomous navigation—even in GPS-denied environments.
Is the design rugged and reliable in extreme conditions?
Yes—constructed of carbon fibre and magnesium, tested to IP-54 and MIL-810G standards. It operates in sustained winds up to 65 km/h (gusts to 90 km/h), at altitudes up to 15,000 ft.
How secure and resilient are its communications and navigation systems?
Equipped with dual redundant navigation, digital MIMO communications, and AES-256 encryption. It also supports semi-autonomous missions in RF-denied zones.
Can it be integrated into vehicles or tethered for extended missions?
Yes—it supports multiple operating modes: free flight, tethered (for persistent operations), and vehicle integration without needing tools on-site.
What are its main use cases?
It’s used widely in ISR, search & rescue, disaster/emergency response, tactical operations, beyond-visual-line-of-sight missions, payload delivery, and infrastructure inspections.
